Snow leopard mail with exchange 2007 attachment size
Whilst on the face of things mail.app in Snow leopard should work out of the box with exchange 2007 it still needs settings changing, in this case to send attachments over 5meg. The following fixes this:
You need to edit web.config in the following 2 files and change maxrequestlength to a size in kilobytes i.e. 50000 for ~50meg:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\ClientAccess\exchweb\ews C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\ClientAccess\owa
Then also from a command prompt do the following:
cd \Windows\System32\inetsrv
Flush cache on Mac OSX
If you want to manually force a flush of your local DNS cache on a Mac use the following:
dscacheutil -flushcache
Prior to 10.5.1 you can use:
lookupd -flushcache
Apple writing to NTFS shares
We were having issues with a few macs in the office, whereby they could connect to Windows 2003 NTFS shares and read the data but upon trying to write to shares it would fail with no error message whatsoever.
The folllowing fixed this with the following performed on the DC
Start -> Administrative Tools -> Domain Controller Policy
Security Settings -> Local Policies -> Security Options -> "Microsoft network server: Digitally sign communications (always)". It should show "Enabled" by default. Double-click on it and set to "Disabled".
Turning on your Mac using the remote control
Not only can you invoke and navigate Front Row all from the Apple remote but you can also put the computer to sleep or wake it from sleep by holding the play/pause button on the remote for three seconds.
Pressing any button on the remote wakes the computer.
This approach can also be helpful if you want to use a TV (or external display) with a MacBook or MacBook Pro while keeping the computer closed because you can connect the TV or display, sleep the computer by closing the lid and wake it with the remote.
