How To Remove Internet Explorer 7 (IE7)

You've probably had Microsoft's latest Internet Explorer 7 browser forced upon your Windows desktop recently.

Since then you may have noticed that some of the software which embeds the browser into the application no longer wants to play ball - or spits scripting errors at you now.

If the application doesn't have an update available, or they are charging big money for the latest update you might have considered just un-installing IE7 and going back to the good old days.

Well it isn't as easy as you may have thought - Internet Explorer 7 doesn't appear in the usual Control Panel Add or Remove programs list.

Instead you need to inspect the updates on your PC.

  1. First go to the Control Panel Add or Remove Programs list.
  2. Click the "Show Updates" checkbox
  3. Click on whatever version of IE7 you have. For example "Windows Internet Explorer 7"
  4. Click the Change/Remove button

If you're already running Microsoft's Windows Vista and looking to get a application running - you're out of luck. Internet Explorer 7 is with you for the long run.

Will that automatically restore IE6?

Personally, I no longer rely on anything IE. It's Firefox for me as a web browser and I don't think I have any applications that use IE anymore (well I guess .chm files?).
